On November 16, Oleg Kuvshinnikov, the Governor of the Vologda Region, during his working visit to the Vokhtoga settlement visited the construction site where the investment project “Creation of birch plywood production on the basis of LLC “Plitvud “* is being implemented.
The project has been included by the order of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation in the list of the priority investment projects in the field of forest development.
Alexander Churkin, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Group of Companies “Vologodskie Lesopromyshlenniki”:
“This plant is being built in order to integrate with the existing particleboard production – plywood production waste will be consumed as raw material for the manufacture of other products. The most modern equipment will be used here. Today the most developing markets are worked out – our plywood will go to the production of large cars, construction of liquefied gas carriers and other directions”.
The enterprise will become one of the main plywood producers in the country. Annual production volume of large-format plywood will amount to 180 thousand cubic meters. It is planned to export finished products to EU countries, Middle East and South America.

Dmitry Zachko, General Director of Plitwood LLC:
“Now at least 180 people and 6 contractors are working at the site. The construction works of the main building, the warehouse of the finished products and the boiler house are in progress. Simultaneously with the frame assembly we are working on the engineering networks: gas, electricity, water and sewage. At the beginning of the next year we will start assembling heating systems, starting with water heating boilers and passing to technological boilers. Then there will be the installation of the equipment. We will get the first sheet of plywood in the first quarter of 2023”.
The decision to build the plant was supported at the investment council under the Governor of the region in 2018. The total amount of investments will be 12 billion rubles.
“700 jobs will be created here, hundreds of qualified specialists will come here. Therefore, our task is to put in order the infrastructure of the Vokhtoga village by the startup of the enterprise: to repair roads, schools, kindergartens, cultural institutions and sports facilities”, – stressed the Governor.
The Head of the region also visited the Vokhtoga wood board plant “VokhtogaLesDrev”, which is one of the biggest enterprises in the region. Oleg Kuvshinnikov inspected the impregnation line and congratulated the staff on the 60th anniversary of the enterprise.
“In 2016, the company was declared bankrupt, but already in 2017, new owners came. Effective management, global investments, production of competitive and export-oriented products, vision of markets and development strategies gave unique performance, which has never been. I would like to thank all the employees of the enterprise who put their efforts into the development of the plant and the Vologda region,” noted Oleg Kuvshinnikov.
The main products of the enterprise are chipboard and laminated chipboard, which are used in furniture production, construction and other sectors of the economy. The implementation of investment projects at the enterprise in recent years has made it possible to significantly increase the volume and quality of products. Every fourth cubic meter of particleboard in the region is produced here.

“Since the beginning of work in 2017, we are going up. Our production figures have increased by 20 percent compared to last year, and in film production due to the new line the figures have increased by 45 percent. We fully cover the needs of our own production, as well as supplying the Sheksninsky wood board plant and the Cherepovets plywood and furniture plant.
The share of wood processing in the Vologda region for 10 years has increased by 15% and is now 75%. Every year the production of high-margin products increases. This year there has been an increase in production of almost all types of basic products of the timber industry complex.
The Vologda region ranks first in the Russian Federation by the number of priority investment projects in the field of forest development – 22 of 157 projects are being implemented in the region.
