A new art object – an urban sculpture of a woman with a baby in her arms – was opened on Pirogov Boulevard in the immediate vicinity of the maternity hospital № 1 in Vologda. The object was the completion of the improvement of the boulevard. It was a gift from the Vologda Timber Industry Group for the 875th anniversary of Vologda.
The opening of the art object was attended by Alexander Shangin, CEO of VLP Group, Sergey Voropanov, Mayor of Vologda, representatives of public organizations, and residents of the city.
Alexander Shangin:
«Last year our group of companies celebrated its 30th anniversary. We employ more than 2.5 thousand people in different districts of the Vologda region. Wherever we are located, we try to do our best to improve the living environment of our employees and our potential employees. This is a very tender and touching monument. I personally like it very much, especially since my wife is pregnant at the moment. Despite the fact that I’m a newcomer to Vologda, I’m happy to have the honor of joining in the unveiling of something that will last».
Sergey Voropanov:
«We specifically wanted to make a “down-to-earth” sculpture, which you can walk up to, take a picture of, and touch. By the way, some people note the similarity of the monument to the miraculous Vladimir icon of the Mother of God, the giver of maternity. The new art-object is wrapped up in traditions and beliefs. According to the legend stone “mother” will help Vologda residents who dream to have more children in the family. I want to thank “Vologodskie Lesopromyshlenniki” group of companies for the wonderful gift for the day of the city».
A sculptor from Moscow worked on the monument for a year, together with architects from the Urban Environment Laboratory. They chose a sketch in the style of abstractionism.
The new sculpture has already become the center of attraction for Vologda citizens. The first viewers appreciated the art object. Some note the resemblance of the monument to the miraculous Vladimir icon of the Mother of God, the giver of maternity. At the opening of the new art-object “appeared” a belief: the stone “mother” will help Vologda residents, who dream of a new addition to the family.
